You know what I love? (well, besides cheesecake froyo with cookie dough toppings...) I love reading accessible style posts. Like, the ones where I say, "Ooh, I can totally do something similar with my own wardrobe!" I love seeing style that's wearable, affordable, and real. Honestly, sometimes I get bummed out because I'm not gallivanting around the blog and IG wearing heels and designer frocks. But duh, guys, that's not my life. It is real life for some bloggers, and that's okay. But for me, right now, real life is denim shorts (with baby applesauce on them, most likely) and flats and chipped nail polish.

The past few weeks, I've been thinking a lot about my style posts. I don't feel like I'm anywhere close to the most fashionable girl out there. And the leftover mama pooch has got me feeling blah. But I began thinking about what inspires me. And it's real life. It's the cute outfits that other mamas are wearing while they wrangle their own babies. Even if it's all from Target. Because heck yes, you can have a busy and hectic life, but still take time to look cute. Nah, looking cute isn't the most important thing in the world, but feeling great about yourself is a pretty big deal, I believe.

So, you're stuck with my style posts. They may be sporadic. They definitely won't be glitzy. And I'll probably repeat stuff a lot (like this striped skirt... lurve it.) But they'll be me and they'll be real.

I feel like this post came out sounding like I'm justifying something, but I just wanted to share what was going through my brain the past few weeks. So there ya go.

If you're looking for some adorable real-life style inspiration, check out two of my newest faves, Merrick's Art and Frill for Thrills. I'd love to hear about some of your favorite real life style blogs!

  2. I'd take adorable momma style like yours over an issue of GOOP full of $$$ goodies any day :) Keep 'em coming! (i've got a nice momma pooch going after the birth of my most recent little munchkin this past sunday, so advice on that is always welcome!)

  4. I love the realness and honesty of this post! It's very easy to get lost in what other people are wearing and forget that you know what works best for you. I'm learning to love the fact that my go to outfit for the summer is cut off jean shorts and a tank top. P.S. totally had that nail color on earlier this week :)

    1. Yes! Exactly-- when I just focus on what I feel and look good in (rather than what others are doing), I am so much happier!

(Isn't it the best color?! Such a perfect summer color!)

  5. I completely agree - I feel like the past few months I've finally started to hit my stride in being a work from home mom and take care of my little guy and do all of the things AND shower - but having accessible inspiration is so sparse sometimes! I'll take the simple cute stuff any day - keep it comin' ;)

  6. Such a good post! Thanks for your honesty. From another blogger who is NOT a fashion blogger at all but loves real life and beauty... I appreciate this so very much.

[By the way, I have a giveaway going on this week for something good for mommies... beccagarber.com!]

  7. I'm with you...I'm seriously floored at seeing mama's carrying around their kiddos with heels. I could barely wear heals pre-kid! lol.

  16. I like REAL myself! I can't afford the glitz and glamor so I'd much rather see Target and F21 and H&M because that's realistic for ME at this time! Plus, I like comfy and practical too...and heels are neither for me right now! ;) Keep it up! I like it! And...love this little on-som-blay ;)

  18. Love this post and of course you're outfit? Have you heard of Noonday Collection? It's fashion to enable women out of poverty and it also advocates for orphans as well. I think you would look so gorgeous in it!!

  19. It's so important to feel good about yourself. I saw on twitter that you just ordered your first stitchfix the other day. I did too! I hope this helps get me excited about my wardrobe again as I feel like I've been in a slump.

    Love your style posts!

  20. I love seeing your style posts! You have a great flair for mixing and matching things up. And I'm with you on feeling great about yourself is super important to our attitude. And Target - LOVE!!

btw - super cute hoodie - gotta love anthro!

  21. I love that jacket! And I love your casual, comfortable style. It's so much more realistic than a lot of posts you see out there. I kept a fashion blog for a couple years and when I finally left it and returned to writing I couldn't believe how much more I loved my style. (My husband was pretty happy too. He hated the "creative" looks.)

  22. Why do you think I don't do style posts every day? Five days of week I'm head to toe black because that's what I wear for my job. So I only get to post cute stuff on the days I happen to be dressed up going somewhere.

I'd rather see real life anyway ;-)

  23. Fwiw, I love your style posts because they are real life for majority of us. Keep doing what you are doing, L...you are good at it!
    hugs!

  25. I've always enjoyed your style! I am totally *not* a style blogger, but I appreciate when your outfits are real - I'm not the girl in a dress & heels, either. ;)

  26. I've always loved your style, girl! I'm all about Target (but who isn't?) and love that your outfits are real and something that I could actually leave the house in without feeling like I was going to fall over or not be able to sit down or something. I can't wait for your next one! :)
