Ceiling Medallions on My Wall

It's not often that my Inspire Me Mondays come to life in this house! I wrote about my love for ceiling medallions as wall art in this post and today I'm showing you my very own ceiling medallions now gracing our dining room nook.





I bought my medallions at both CSN.com and ceilingmedallions.net. I bought one medallion from CSN.com as part of my review (which I'll be writing up soon), and four others from ceilingmedallions.net. Ceilingmedallions.net was way cheaper and had a really good range of choices so I'd definitely recommend them. CSN.com, while super easy to navigate and fast on the shipping was just a whole lot more expensive. 

So, I don't have before pictures for you but I think you can imagine them white. :) 

I wanted to do some varying shades of yellow per this image. I already had Sunburst by Behr from my yellow bench, so I decided to mix it up with white. I started with a lot of white and just added a few drops of yellow. I wanted to do the lightest shades first so I could just add more yellow as I went instead of being all over the place. I used a small Purdy paintbrush to get into all the nooks and crannies.

I'll be taking a bit of a blog holiday for a few days. Chris' family is coming into town today and we are hosting them in our house for Thanksgiving. It's going to be crazy with 6 extra people in our house for week but we're looking forward to the chaos. We're so excited to catch up with everyone and spend lots of time playing with our 20 month old niece, Lucy!

And now for some Thanksgiving reflection...

As most are, I'm contemplating my blessings this week. I'd like to share a few things I am thankful for.

I'm thankful that Chris and I get to live on this beautiful island. I gripe about the constant heat alot, and to be honest, I'll be ready to move on when it's time, but I never cease to be amazed by God's creation out here. From the daily rainbows appearing in the sky, the mighty waves crashing on the beach and the spectacular sunsets each night, it's hard to forget the Painter and Creator behind this beauty.



I'm thankful for the opportunity I have to spend my days doing what I love--painting, creating, and sharing all that on this blog with you. I feel so blessed that I've been able to follow my dreams of selling my artwork and can't express enough my gratefulness to you, my readers, family and friends for encouraging me with your comments, emails and just by being here!


I'm thankful for this guy. LOVE HIM. 


I'm thankful for my family. Even though we are across the world from them. Maybe even more now that we are so far away. I'm thankful for the technology these days that allows me to video chat, email and call them to keep in touch. (And I'm oh-so-thankful that we get to spend this Thanksgiving with a good portion of Chris' family!) 

Aren't my nieces adorable? And this is only three out of the seven! :) 




So, those are the big things. I'm also thankful for crispy bacon, great paint brushes, fabulous, inspirational blog friends and their blogs, the color yellow, my American Eagle sandals, and $1 movies from Red Box.

[over the weekend] I Had a Bad Day... and a Good One Too.

Have you ever had a day that you wish you could hit the "rewind" button on? I think we all have. Yesterday was that day for me. I started off in a rotten mood (for no real reason at all) and it just got worse.

After church, Chris and I got an argument. No fun.

Then we went to Best Buy to get our camera repaired (it suffered a tragic fall during our hike this weekend). Thankfully, the repairs are covered under our warranty but we had to send it away for up to four weeks. That's 2-4 weeks where I can't list paintings or take pictures for my blog. Plus, Chris' family is coming into town this week, we have his ship's Christmas party soon and lots of other fun things coming up. I broke down and cried while filling out paperwork with the Geek Squad. Embarrassing. But I was and am legitimately upset that I'll be without my camera for so long.

And next on the list was dreaded grocery shopping. I HATE grocery shopping. And having 6 people staying in our house this week (plus hosting Thanksgiving) means lots of grocery shopping. So two hours in the crowded commissary searching for cranberry sauce and pumpkin pie filling (which they RAN OUT OF) didn't do anything to help my mood or attitude.

Today I am thankful for God's mercies that are renewed each morning. Yesterday was a bad one. But today, I wake up and I feel His grace wash over me and I'm thankful that I am not consumed by my sinful nature, my bad attitude or the awful day I had before.

"Because of the LORD’s great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness."
Lamentations 3:22-23



So, yesterday was bad day, but Saturday was great day! We went hiking for the day with a group of friends and had fun swimming in a VERY frigid waterfall (Laie Falls). I'll leave you with this funny clip Chris took of me jumping in the cold mountain water.

Shop Talk

Just wanted to update you guys on a few shoppy things. I've enjoyed every second since opening the shop in September and I'm so thankful for your support and sweet encouragement! I hope you'll consider me as you are making your Christmas wish lists and shopping lists.

First, I'd like to highlight some great gift ideas from my shop.

And remember that I love custom paintings. I can work with you to create the perfect piece for your home or a friend's home! Be sure to check it out!

Deadlines for Christmas delivery are as follows. Order your custom painting by December 1st (that's less than two weeks, people!) in order to get confirmed delivery by Christmas. Regular orders from pre-existing paintings in my shop must be ordered by December 15th. Email me with any questions, I can work with you on rush shipping if you'd like. 

I'll be having a Black Friday sale from November 26th-28th! Stay tuned for more details on that.
