Branchy Artwork

Hi everyone! I know I've been a little MIA the past few days. I'm having a fabulous time with my friends and family here in MD and trying to fill every minute I can.

I spent yesterday down in Virginia with my oldest brother's family. I got to meet this precious one.

Oh my goodness, she melts my heart!

Anyway, last Christmas, I painted some artwork for my brother's family and while we were there, I got to see how they had arranged it in their living room. I thought I'd share!

My brother is a forester, so I chose branches/trees/leaves as my subject. I love how they centered the paintings around that candle sconce, which has it's own branchy vibe.

Okay, off to get ready for lunch downtown with a sweet sister-friend. Don't forget that you can follow me on twitter to get updates on all that's going on in my world this month! :)

Home.

My first day at home was juuuust about perfect. Throw in one more brother and his family plus a husband (mine to be exact) and it would have taken the cake.

Live crabs sure are fun to play with... especially when they don't have their claws!

I can't believe my oldest niece is almost as tall as me. (Though, at 5"2'....that's not really hard to do.)

Our crab feasting got interrupted by a massive thunderstorm that knocked out power all around the county. I was in heaven though, not having seen a thunderstorm in almost a year!

We continued the feasting inside. I love this shot of the Palumbo sisters and our beautiful mama.

It's not a Palumbo gathering without some wrestling. (Can you find me under that pile of kids??)

Nothing beats looking through old photo albums and remembering hilarious childhood stories together.

Love, love looove these kiddos.

Up and Out!

Headed off to the East Coast today! I'm so stoked to see my friends and family again and I cannot wait to reunite with Chris again on the other side of the world.

I will be popping in and sharing lots of fun stuff (hopefully including some makeovers in my parents house, a long awaited Ikea trip and some day trips with my beloved that I'm suuper excited about!)

Peace out, peeps!

Thoughts in My Head

I have a ton of stuff to do today to get ready for flying out to the East Coast tomorrow.  I'm going to let you in on random thoughts rolling around in my 'haid' this morning. Ready?

I'm sick. I have decorating ADD. I wish I could just finish a room in our house and be happy, but I am constantly thinking of ways to change things and I have a million different ideas for one room. It's actually kind of annoying. I'd love to have our home "complete" and not think about changing it all the time. Maybe it's because we are in a temporary (2-3 years) living situation and I don't feel like I can make anything permanent? Oooh, I don't know. Do you struggle with this problem?

Books. I'm headed out to Borders today to buy a great, fabulous book for my travel. I asked this on Facebook and got a great list from my friends but I thought I'd put the same question out here. Lay it on me, what's your favorite recent read? I need something engaging that I can get lost in during my 20 hour travel day. (I'm thinking I'm going to buy the Hunger Games. Have you read this series?)

Art. I'm getting closer to opening my Etsy shop, guys. Since I'm going away for several weeks, I wasn't able to open it up this week, but look for some news coming around the first week of September. And get your Paypal accounts ready--I'll be super sad if I don't make any sales! ;)

Laundry. I always do this before a trip. I do all my laundry days ahead of time. Then I wear my favorite underwear that week and end up having to do another load of laundry right before I leave. You'd think I'd learn and either just do the laundry the day before I leave, or go commando all week. Just kidding!!! I'd NEVER do that! ;)

Ok, amigos. Let's see if I can knock out my to-do list today. Ready, set, go!

Oh Maryland, My Maryland.

I'm headed home to Maryland this weekend! Chris will be meeting me in Rhode Island (where he'll be at a school for three weeks) next week but we thought I should take advantage of an empty week and spend it with the fam. Here are some things I am bouncing - off- my- lime -green- couch excited about:

Steamed Maryland Blue Crabs. Nothing says home like a heap of these guys, a vat bowl of melted butter and a cold beer. YUM!

Nieces and nephews galore! This is only half of the brood. I know they've gotten so big in the last year and I can't wait to squeeze and kiss on each one of them!

This view. Oh, I love this view. Chris' parent's live on the river and if a crab feast says home, then a crab feast on the deck overlooking this river says heaven to me.

Chick-fil-a!! You know my love for the plump, juicy 'Chiken' sandwiches. Oh, and the waffle fries!! And the sauces! And the sweet tea!!

I can't wait to meet this beauty. Sofia Lindsay is our newest niece and my namesake, at that.

More food. Pad Thai at Nano. Chris and I ate pad thai all across the country, trying to find the best one. None compared to the steaming plate of succulent noodles at this sushi bar/Thai restaurant in downtown Annapolis.

I'm not so excited about the almost 24 hour travel day by myself. Yuck.

What's Black, White and Lime Green All Over??

Answer: new artwork!

I used this shower curtain as the jumping off point for an acrylic triptych painting I did for a friend.

The canvases are 12 x 36 each so they take up a good amount of space and the black will look fabulous against her white wall.

I Have to Confess...

... the prospect of an empty, waiting to be filled weekend is really depressing when Chris is gone.

I'm missing him alot this morning. Zero communication doesn't help and neither does being across the globe from my fam. God has certainly provided friends here in Hawaii, but nothing compares to having Chris next to me.

In other news...

...warm banana bread with crumbly Streusel topping and cream cheese is da bomb...

... I have several half-finished projects around the house and I'm *hoping* to share them with you next week.

... I hope Chris doesn't mind that I have a friend staying in our guest room while he's gone.

Aaannd, this is my last chance to remind you to enter the Sew Much Detail giveaway this weekend! I'll be announcing the winner on Monday (so you have until about 5am Eastern time to enter).

Sew Much Detail Giveaway!

You know the feeling. You're about to walk out the door. Sunglasses, check. Wallet, check. Fully dressed, check. Keys... keys? And then you spend 5 minutes rooting around in the black hole at the bottom of your purse for your keys. No fun.

That was me for months and it was so annoying to hunt down that little bundle of keys. As I was browsing Etsy one day, I found the solution in SewMuchDetail.

Sandee is the owner of this fabulous shop that sells beautiful, bright and funky Keylettes™, lanyards and coasters. They are all sewn from fabrics like Heather Bailey, Amy Butler, Michael Miller. Here are some of my favorite Keylettes™.

Here's my very own Keylette™. I can't miss it's pops of orange, yellow, pink and green in my purse and it's great for slipping around my wrist when my hands are full.

Don't you just love them?? Sandee has graciously offered for one winner to choose a Keylette™ from her shop. Wanna know how to win?

1. To win, you must be a follower of AisletoAloha. **Click on the Follow button on the right to become a follower**  Leave a comment on this post.  I want to hear all about the best roadtrip you've ever taken, or a dream road trip!

2. If you blog about the giveaway, come back and leave a second comment/entry.

3. And if you tweet about it, leave another comment/entry. (And don't forget to follow me!)

So, you can potentially enter up to three times. I'll announce the winner (using random.org) Monday, July 19th.

Good luck, bloggy friends! :)
